A Tragic Discovery Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend. “How we will long for this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.” Charges Filed Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body. “I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.” Children Share Their Grief Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.” Colleagues and Friends Remember Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks. “His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” the statement said. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.” A Lasting Cinematic Legacy When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay. Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.
