Admittedly, it's Full of Gibberish, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Self-Help Jargon. However, I Honestly Love Meghan's Festive Episode.

No concerned with the time of year, it's always hunting season for scrutiny on the Meghan Markle's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Commentators, expert and amateur alike, have seldom found such common ground as when gleefully ripping the program's initial installments apart. The common opinion was that a bigger monarchy-related faux pas had hardly ever taken place than the now-infamous pretzel-bagging incident.

Now, in the spirit of a holiday maverick, she makes a comeback for another round with a "Holiday Celebration" (or a holiday episode). But this time, the dynamic has changed. The familiar ingredients audiences anticipate – vague self-help platitudes, extreme hosting – are still present, but set of a yuletide episode, the purpose becomes clear. The elements have slid together; it's a flawless festive blizzard.

By this point, Meghan is like the oddball family member at Christmas celebrations everywhere – dispensing unsolicited, unnecessary advice, and contributing the odd random outburst. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's an interesting figure, but her aura is known and unexpectedly soothing. And she appears happy enough; she's causing any harm.

She is aware her every micro expression, word and glance will be picked apart and criticised, but nonetheless looks carefree and serenely untroubled.

It could be this is the initial instance in history where that old chestnut – "Pay no mind, it's only envy" – could actually be true. The reason is, in all honesty, everything in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is charming. Yes, it's all cringily ultra-extra, nonsense and extravagant – but isn't that just what Yuletide is about? And the words she speaks might be laughable, but the walk she's walking genuinely looks beautifully curated.

Anything she sets her mind to, she accomplishes with panache. Her cooking looks tasty, the holiday arrangement she crafts is breathtaking, her presents are practically too exquisite to unwrap. Nothing is ordinary or visually unappealing – including the way she fastens her apron is stylish and elegant. She doesn't bung a meal in the microwave, it "goes for a spin", and she folds wrapping paper like an craft master. She also seems to be completely savoring herself from start to finish. How could any cynical observer not be charmed, bursting with seasonal cheer and left with a deep longing for handmade crackers or a crudites platter where greens is organized in the likeness of a wreath?

Meghan used to pretend for a living, of course, but despite that, after the intensity of examination she has faced ever since she started dating Prince Harry, a theoretical combination of two legendary actresses would have difficulty behaving this authentically. Her decision to modify or even tone down her routine, regardless of it being so persistently, widely parodied, is strangely reassuring. In our unpredictable world, here is one thing we can rely on: Meghan will remain herself, whatever happens. We will always know our position with her.

If you're still not buying what she's selling, a point that will surely come as a reassurance: you are not obligated to. The UK has abolished mandatory conscription these days, and should it be reinstated, it would be doubtful to include viewing With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, conversely, you decide to tune in and are gripped with envy about her picture-perfect Christmas, you can take solace either. Be you a duchess or a data administrator, no kid completely grasps the time and energy their mum expends in the holiday season. So you can take heart by picturing Archie and Lilibet's faces when they open a handwritten message that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a handcrafted holiday countdown, rather than a sweet treat.
