🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3. Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit. A Significant Investment On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters. "I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come." Executive Acclaim In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility. "All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Comforting Counterpoint When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family navigate their everyday routines. In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.” What Comes Next With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
