Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
