Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation. “That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.” It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable. “Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.” Authorities shared video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports. The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away. Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn. “The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking. “There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.” Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery. Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery. “He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.” Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
