The Grisly Animated Film Ending That Lingers Audiences

Out of all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the dread-soaked finale of a graphically gory as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In the year 2015, the Spain-based filmmaker created a grim, melancholy , often savage world that included some tiny , desolate glimmers of optimism.

While Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to push the medium further, the filmmaker clarified that it was more an attempt to communicate a global, multicultural theme concerning “the shared root of all wars.”

That idea is communicated through a squad of colorful pastel bears , openly modeled after a popular line of cuddly characters.

Maturing in a society focused on militarism as well as the war machine, many of the bears are fixated on exterminating the mythical beasts, because of a religious scripture that tells them they were once kings of the forest, until the unicorns forced them out.

Others have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , choose to sample narcotics and mate outdoors.

Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these bright beings show genitals and definite sex drives.

For a certain especially vicious, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the war against the unicorns transforms into a road to power — and specifically to dominance over his more tender, more compassionate sibling Tubby.

Bluey acts as a tormentor and a seeming antisocial figure , and as fear overcomes his squad and claims his comrades individually, he seizes increasingly control personally, through ever more bloody, harmful methods.

Simultaneously, these mythical beings are experiencing their own terror, through a spreading, deadly beast in their forest.

“At the beginning, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “Yet it becomes a more serious and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it transforms into a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more whimsical movies from an iconic filmmaker, that discover a naughty glee in letting animated figures curse, shoot each other, or engage sexually.

Afterward it becomes closer to a bleaker work from that director, featuring progressively graphic violence and a palpable link to genuine tragedy of conflict.

By the end, it is a full-on theatrical horror carnage.

The horror that turns this a Halloween-friendly movie begins much sooner than one might expect.

Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated gorehounds, for fans of extreme cinema who want to see a movie they haven’t ever watched previously, and are able to withstand a story that offers absolutely no punches.

Watch it with the lights off free from interruptions, and that ending will crawl into your mind and stay with you.
