The Three Lions to Start Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the anticipated entry for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to stage the England side for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, should they win the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Competition Opening and Demonstration

The championship was inaugurated at an gathering in a London landmark on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 protesters, who called for Israel’s national side to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were displayed with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The first match of the tournament will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will involve Wales if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract families and help engage a wider spectrum of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are scheduled to play their first game at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would follow suit at Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches played at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
