Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that Pluribus would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
